But that’s only the beginning. Here, we don’t just teach the basics; we delve into the geography of our surroundings, identifying crucial bodies of water and major highways that serve as vital lifelines for responses.  A great way to teach map reading.  This station is equipped with the ability to conduct active shooter drills and text-to-9-1-1 practice, providing students a realistic glimpse into the urgency of emergency situations. Included are the learning version of call protocols used in the Comm Center such as ProQA, APCO or Power Phone.  These invaluable resources ensure that future call takers grasp the essential protocols and procedures crucial for effective emergency communication.

At the Comm Center, most students will utilize these Call Taking Guides along with established protocols and electronic guide cards, including widely respected systems like Priority Dispatch, APCO, and PowerPhone. This foundational training is designed to not only prepare our graduates for immediate success but to ease their transition to the electronic version they’re likely to encounter in the field.
